Poem Ownership

People don’t write poems;
poems write poems.

Oh, well, I discovered these first;
they’re mine.

Poems don’t belong to people
any more than the air they breathe.

But I was the person there
when this poem was being born,

and if you try to print it
without mentioning my name,

I’ll kill you!
