Guidelines for Submission

General
An unprofessional literary quarterly that prints first-time authors, emerging, authors, established authors, and authors who are so visible that everyone's sick of them. To fully understand what is published, please purchase a sample copy.

Your name and address should be on the first page of your ms, and your cover letter should include a short list (3 or so) of other publications you've been published in or that you admire. If your ms is accepted, you will be asked to provide the titles, addresses, and prices of three other magazines you feel are worthy of reading or submitting to - as well as (if the mood strikes) a short description of each. We usually respond to mss somewhere within 6-9 months.

For Poetry
Send up to 12 pages or 6 poems at one time - sending more may delay response. Generally doesn't accept so-called "rhyming" poetry. Tends to accept poems that are aware of themselves.

For Short Fiction
Will not print stories of more than 4,500 words (anymore). Can be on any topic, but more often than not topic is not a word that applies to the fiction published in PCJ.

For Essays
Thoughts, ruminations, actual research is always welcomed on subjects that relate to the issue(s) of being an artist.

Artwork/Photos
Accepted willingly. magazine is photocopied in b/w, so please only submit those pieces that will photocopy well.

Book Reviews
Can be on any book that is either published by a small press or by the author him/herself. Normally reviews short story collections, novels, and novellas. Occasionally prints reviews of non-fiction when it relates to the topic of being an artist or writer. We pay $5 per accepted review upon publication.

Mission Statement
The goal is to solicit, promote, publish, and present works by artists in such a way as to create the illusion of literature.

DO NOT send unsolicited mss to our e-mail address. They will be deleted.
